  • "Halloween" is short for "Hallows' Eve"  which was the evening before All Hallows' Day celebrated on November 1.
  • Ireland is typically believed to be the birthplace of Halloween.
  • The word "witch" comes from the Old English wicce, meaning "wise woman." In fact, wiccan were highly respected people at one time. According to popular belief, witches held one of their two main meetings on Halloween night.
  • According to Irish legend, Jack O'Lanterns are named after a stingy man named Jack who, because he tricked the devil several times, was forbidden entrance into both heaven and hell.  He was condemned to wander the Earth, waving his lantern to lead people away from their paths.
  • According to tradition, if a person wears his or her clothes inside out and then walks backwards on Halloween, he or she will see a witch at midnight.
  • Trick-or-treating evolved from the ancient Celtic tradition of putting out treats and food to placate spirits who roamed the streets at Samhain, a sacred festival that marked the end of the Celtic calendar year.
  • Another Celtic tradition was the dressing up as ghouls and other spooks by townspeople to disguise themselves as demons and spirits. The Celts believed that disguising themselves this way would allow them to escape the notice of the real spirits wandering the streets during Samhain.

Please join the Terror At Trossachs team this Saturday for some fun on Halloween Night, October 31st from 6:00 until 8:30.

The Haunted Graveyard “Terror At Trossachs” will feature several good scares, live actors in costume and animatronic characters full of mischif…. With FULL size candy bars as a reward at the end for those brave enough to make it to the front door!

There is no charge for the event and it’s open to all ages (Though there are some pretty intense scares so little ones should be ready).

Canned goods are gladly accepted if you would like to donate. All donations will go to NW Harvest. While we celebrate being scared on this night, there is nothing more scary than being hungry and your donations are greatly appreciated. Several students from Eastside Catholic school in Sammamish along with members from The Cascade Team Real Estate will be on hand to collect the food donations and deliver them to NW Harvest.
